Caritas Good Samaritan appoints new Director of Oncology

Eric Wojcik, RHIT, CTR, has been appointed as the new Director of Oncology at Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center.

Wojcik’s appointment comes at the same time as Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center is poised to enter into a new era of cancer care. The medical center will open a radiation treatment center in the late fall, offering state-of-the art Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy and Image Guided Radiation Therapy under the medical direction of Dr. Mark Sinesi, a Brockton native.

“Since Eric joined the Cancer Program, he has raised the bar for the level of care we provide to our patients. Due to his diligence, hard work and dedication, his enthusiasm about the Cancer Registry and Cancer programs at Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center, Eric is committed to making sure the cancer programs are the best that we can provide to our patients, said Rohini Sakhuja, MD, chair, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and the CGSMC Cancer Care Committee. “I am committed to making sure we have a multi-disciplinary program at Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center and Eric has been a big factor in accomplishing that. I look forward to working with him and Dr. Mark Sinesi for the new oncology center.”

As director of oncology, Wojcik will oversee the cancer program’s operational excellence and delivery of services, collaborating with the Cancer Care Committee, physicians, clinical directors and administration to provide exceptional cancer care to patients in the Greater Brockton community.

“Our cancer patients and their families will be well served by Eric’s knowledge of our cancer program and his strict diligence to quality standards. He brings a great enthusiasm, compassion, and deep respect for cancer patients and their families to his work,” said Jerilyn Thomas, Vice President of Outpatient Services and Support at Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center.

A Registered Health Information Technician and Certified Tumor Registrar, Wojcik previously served as the medical center’s cancer program coordinator. In that capacity he worked with the Cancer Care Committee to oversee all aspects of CGSMC’s cancer program, including the adherence to all standards for accreditation by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, use of the cancer registry to follow statistical cancer trends, development of program policies and collaboration with medical staff to produce quality improvement studies for the cancer program.

Earlier this year, Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center’s cancer program was granted a Three-Year Approval with Commendation by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons.

A multi-disciplinary cancer committee, which is chaired by Dr. Sakhuja, oversees all activities of the cancer program at Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center.

Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center is accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer as a Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program.  Cancer program activities include weekly oncology conferences, a cancer registry, a quality management program, and a community outreach program that is actively involved in improving the health of the local community.

Wojcik is a candidate for a master’s of business administration, health care management, through Regis University. He graduated summa cum laude from Bristol Community College with an associate’s degree in healthcare information management and he also holds a paralegal certificate from the college. Wojcik also holds a bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of Massachusetts where he graduated cum laude.

Prior to joining Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center he worked at Rhode Island Hospital where he was a Cancer Registrar Technical Specialist.
