Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center Recognizes Capital Campaign Donors

1/30/2006

CGS Donors Reception

Gathered in front of the donor recognition plaque during donor recognition ceremonies in Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center’s J. Joseph Moakley Center are, left to right, Robert Gustafson, chairman of Caritas Good Samaritan’s board of trustees, James Berghelli, RPh, MS, Caritas Good Samaritan director of clinical integration and endowment committee chairman, John Holiver, Caritas Good Samaritan president, and John Kelleher, former Caritas Good Samaritan board chairman, long-time supporter and capital campaign chairman.

Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center recently recognized donors to its $5 million capital campaign during a reception in the hospital’s J. Joseph Moakley Conference Center that featured the unveiling of a plaque commemorating donors of $10,000 or more and employees who donated the equivalent of a half-hour of their pay every week for five years. The ceremony was attended by Caritas Christi Health Care officials, Caritas Good Samaritan trustees, donors, hospital endowment committee members, physicians and employees.

Caritas Good Samaritan’s $5 million capital campaign began its public phase in 2003 and was initiated to help fund a multimillion-dollar expansion and modernization at the hospital, which has included, among other projects, the J. Joseph Moakley Center, which houses diagnostic imaging, patient cancer resource center, cancer registry and cardiac catheterization laboratory. The campaign also helped fund nuclear medicine upgrades at the hospital.

“The tremendous success of the capital campaign is a tribute to the more than 300 friends, employees and area businesses who generously gave to this important effort,” said Caritas Good Samaritan president John Holiver during the ceremony. “The medical center’s future has taken shape during this capital campaign, and I thank you for your thoughtful support and encourage you to remain committed to Caritas Good Samaritan as we continue to transform this outstanding hospital.”

Echoing Holiver’s comments, Robert Gustafson, chairman of Caritas Good Samaritan’s board of trustees, said, “I have been associated with Caritas Good Samaritan for many years, and during the last few years, I have seen some of the most remarkable progress. Caritas Good Samaritan has achieved success on many fronts because of the dedication and commitment of its loyal supporters who have given generously of their time and resources.”

This was Caritas Good Samaritan’s first capital campaign, and former board chair and long-time supporter John Kelleher was capital campaign chairman. “Throughout the course of the campaign, I learned a great deal about this hospital,” Kelleher said. “I knew what Caritas Good Samaritan meant to me, but I didn’t realize how much it meant to so many people. Individuals and businesses in the community came forward to help - recognizing Caritas Good Samaritan as a vital and necessary resource for them and their families. One of my most profound observances was the intense dedication of the employees and physicians. Their generosity and enthusiasm are a testament to their belief in our leadership and our vision.”
